Non-unit activities
There are numerous opportunities for socialization with other midshipmen and with Cornell students. Life here is more than just work, work, work. The staff advisors strongly support and offer advice to the midshipmen with their daily stresses here. Almost every midshipman participates actively in various Cornell University activities. These activities include the fraternities and sororities of the Greek system, numerous varsity sports, and other organizations such as the Cornell marching band, the University newspaper, religious organizations, and outing clubs. Additionally, Cornell midshipmen participate in organizations specifically sponsored by the Cornell NROTC Unit.
Unit sponsored activities
The Cornell Unit also supports its own activities. Each fall, the unit celebrates the Navy and Marine Corps birthdays with a formal ball. Held on campus at the University Student Union Willard Straight Hall, the officers, midshipmen and their guests get together for an enjoyable evening of ceremonies, food, music and dancing. Also in the fall, Cornell NROTC sponsors a combined military drill, military excellence and basketball tournament. Referred to as Cornell University Invitational Drill Competition (CUIDC), this event draws teams from surrounding and far ROTC units and academies of all branches to compete in various drill and athletic events.
