Athletics
Physical fitness is an important aspect of officer preparation.
Battalion physical training (PT)
One morning a week, the battaltion gathers bright and early for an intense, hour-long workout. However, if midshipman are not at a satisfactory level of performance, additional workouts affectionately known as "remedial" may be required.
Physical Fitness Testing
Twice a semester, midshipmen are required to take a physical fitness test: the Physical Readiness Test (PRT) for Navy Options and the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) for Marine Options. The PRT consists of running 1.5 miles, doing the maximum sit-ups you can in two minutes, and doing the maximum number of push-ups you can in two minutes. The PFT consists of a 3 miles run, maximum sit-ups in two minutes, and maximum pull-ups (for males) or a flexed arm-hang (for females). For both the PRT and PFA, standards for males and females are different. You can check out the specific numerical standards using the links to the left.
